South Staffordshire Casualties

My first lead to information about Uncle Alfred was the photograph that my dad inherited from my grandad. On the back there is a small amount of information about his war service, which, as I found out later, was copied from the Roll of Honour for Birmingham.
My next lead was to type his name into the CWGC website. And there it was, the barest information about Alfred's death. This was back in 2002 or 2003, and the website has improved significantly since then.
One recent improvement is that you can now download in spreadsheet ready format, as much information as you want in batches. My South Staffordshire Casualties spreadsheet contains the CWGC dataset for all FWW deaths from the regiment.

Welcome to Come Lasses and Lads

Welcome to "Come Lasses and Lads", a blog for my research into my family's involvement in the First World War. My starting point was my great, great uncle who was in 2nd Battalion, South Staffs. 30195 Pte Alfred Robottom was killed on 4th March 1917.

As complete a biography as I have been able to write can be found here.

The title for the blog comes from the South Staffs march, Come Lasses and Lads, a youtube video of which is below.
